DUKE OF YORK’S ROYAL MILITARY SCHOOL

The late Art Cockerill’s history of the school helped Colin to understand more about his great grandfather’s life and career. It can be viewed on the website bit.ly/duke-of-york-rms.

MUSEUM OF ARMY MUSIC

Based at Kneller Hall in Twickenham, the museum contains documents, manuscripts, uniforms, paintings and medals that build a history of military music. Members of the public can visit on Wednesday afternoons or by appointment. Find out more at bit.ly/m-o-a-m.

MUSICAL MEMORIES

Colin found useful information in back issues of The Discographer Magazine, which can be viewed online at 78rpmcommunity. com, and The Stage at british newspaperarchive.co.uk (together with findmypast. co.uk, if you have a Pro-level subscription to the website).

Colin would also like to thank Kit Jackson, the writer and musicologist Dr Andrew Lamb, and Kevin Meayers, curator of the Amersham Fair Organ Museum, for all their help.

NEW ZEALAND NEWSPAPERS

Papers Past, part of the National Library of New Zealand, is an excellent resource for any family historians who are looking for ancestors who emigrated. Better still, it’s free to use. As well as a range of newspapers, it has magazines, journals, parliamentary papers, letters and diaries. Discover more at paperspast.natlib.govt.nz.
