“Having hearing aids has totally changed my life”

“I can’t overstate how much they have changed my life”

W hen retired head teacher Lis Jeffrey booked a hearing test, she would never have predicted how much her life would change thanks to Amplifon, Initially convinced she just needed her ears syringing, Lis was amazed by the difference her decision to have the test has made. saying.”

“I used to worry about being able to hear the people I was with in crowded bars, but now I can hear every conversation so I don’t have to worry,” she says. “Socially I’m an active person – I like going to bars and I’ve recently joined a choir, which is something I wouldn’t have done without my hearing aids. There’s no more embarrassment in social situations, where I’m trying to keep up with the conversation, nodding with a fixed smile on my face but without a clue what is being said.”

Lis has a full and active retirement and says others picked up on her problems initially, convincing her to seek Amplifon’s help to get back to better hearing and make the most of her lifestyle.

“Other people had noticed my hearing loss before I did – or perhaps I was reluctant to notice,” she says. My husband would pick up on it the most, but I’d just blame him for mumbling or ask him to stand still while he was talking to me. It meant situations could become quite fractious.

“We’d be watching TV and he’d comment on how high the volume was, yet when it was turned down I couldn’t catch everything that was being said. In frustration I’d give up watching programmes or just wouldn’t speak even if I wanted to. It avoided having to keep asking him to face me when he was speaking, but it was quite isolating.”

The turning point came when she began to miss things her grandchildren were saying. “I thought if I had to keep asking them to repeat things they would perhaps not bother speaking to me at all,” she adds.

Lis admits she was convinced a test would prove her hearing was fine or, at worst, that she needed to have her ears syringed. Despite her reservations, she says her local Amplifon audiologist made her feel completely at ease.

“The testing process was fantastic,” she says. “It was a very relaxed atmosphere and very in-depth, but not intrusive, and when I asked questions everything was explained to me – I felt secure that a good job was being done. If I had to have hearing aids I was anxious that they would be protruding from my ears. I admitted that I was conscious that it would show next to my small ears,” but Lis was delighted with how discreet they were. “I can’t overstate how much they have changed my life.”

For Lis, the impact has been immeasurable. She says: “Having hearing aids from Amplifon does change your life and it gives you that extra edge – you can’t put a price on that.”
