James McGuire and Rachel Morgan bit.ly/jamesrachel
I am trying to learn more about James McGuire and Rachel Morgan, who were apparently born in Ireland during the 1830s.
I have a record of their marriage in Temple, Midlothian, Scotland, in 1857 (pictured
above), which has allowed me to establish that James’s parents were Thomas and Mary McGuire (both deceased) and that Rachel’s parents were John Morgan and Anne Jones.
I want to trace the couple back to Ireland, but my searches so far haven’t revealed anything. Eleanorsamwellchow

Which Elizabeth Driffield? bit.ly/elizabethdriffield
Elizabeth Driffield married Charles Duncannon on 17 October 1825 at St Sampson’s Church in York. So far, I can find two potential baptism records:
1. Elizabeth, baptised at Market Weighton, 25 September 1805 (father Edward Driffield; mother Ann).
2. Elizabeth, baptised at Raskelf, 24 March 1806 (father William Driffield).
Elizabeth died on 11 April 1840 aged 35, so the correct baptism would appear to be the first one in Market Weighton. But it’s a close call, which is also complicated by the birth of another Elizabeth to an Edward and Ann in 1807.
Any thoughts or ideas would be much appreciated.

How wealthy were farmers? bit.ly/welshfarmers
I have some Welsh ancestors who were farmers. It appears that their 103 acres were rented from a landowner. I have a few questions. Firstly, was this a typical situation? Was this a small plot in farming size for the mid1800s? Also, was it hard to make a living from farming? I’m a bit confused, as my direct ancestor left home and did some other jobs, which I assume means there was not enough farm work to sustain the family. However, census records suggest that they had one or two servants. Suddes1926
Missing birth families bit.ly/danielgreen
Can anyone offer some guidance for tracing a family line in the 1700s when any suggestion of a birth family is missing?
The first mention of Daniel Green can be found on his marriage record, which took place in Haversham, Buckinghamshire, in 1768. He is listed as being from the neighbouring parish of Little Linford. Shortly after his marriage, Daniel baptised the first of several children in Milton Keynes village, where he stayed until his death in 1783.
I’ve searched parish registers for a likely baptism for Daniel. There is one other Green family (of a Thomas Green) moving into Milton Keynes village three or four years before Daniel, but I can’t find any documented connection. Norfolk Nan
“Formerly” bit.ly/honesthart
My father is recorded on his marriage and death certificates as “Hart (formerly) Honest”. His birth certificate says “Honest”.
Someone in the adoption records office told me this means that he was commonly known as Hart, but was not adopted and did not legally change his name. His children were also born and registered as Hart. Does that mean that legally they are Honest? I’m really confused! Lozzylou
