Who Do You Think You Are?

Surrey Story

-

In the Around Britain article in your February issue you mention the aviation industry and the manufacture of First World War military aircraft at Brooklands, Weybridge, in Surrey.

This was of great interest to me as my father, Norman Bygate, served in the newly formed Royal Air Force in 1918–1919, which superseded the Royal Flying Corps. He was stationed at Brooklands as an AC2 aircraft fitter. His job was to service the Sopwith Camel fighter aircraft.

Unfortunately my father passed away in 1960 when he was 62 years old.

I enclose a photograph of my father in his 1918 RAF uniform. Ron Bygate, Warrington, Cheshire

EDITOR REPLIES: Thanks for sharing your memories of your father.
