National Library of Scotland adds England and Wales Ordnance Survey maps

-

The National Library of Scotland (NLS) has added six-inch-to-the-mile Ordnance Survey maps of England and Wales from the 1950s/1960s to its free maps website.

The 8,949 new maps, now available on maps.nls.uk, join the existing maps for Scotland. The OS six-inch-to-the-mile series dates back to the 1840s, providing a comprehensive online resource for seeing where your ancestors lived.

NLS will now add georeferencing to the England and Wales maps, making it possible to overlay them on maps from other periods to see how the landscape has changed over time.

In addition, NLS is running an online survey to collect user suggestions for improving the website. To take part, go to maps.nls.uk/survey.

The survey closes on 25 February 2019.
