Many county archives and local history libraries have partnered with commercial genealogy websites to create online indexes to parish registers and some Poor Law records. However, don’t forget to also check out the online catalogue for the archive closest to where your ancestors lived, because you may find relatives mentioned in indexes to records that have yet to be scanned. The National Archives’ website has details of local archives across the country at discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/find-an-archive.
