Many were missed from the lists of casualties supplied to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. For some years now the In From The Cold project has been working to plug the gaps in the official record. To date the project has processed more than 5,000 cases, many of which now have official war grave headstones, while others have been added to CWGC memorials to the missing. A search for the surname ‘Scott’ in the database of casualties leads to eight entries, including a civilian who died in Buchenwald concentration camp, a Royal Artillery driver, and an apprentice in the Mercantile Marine whose ship was sunk by a U-boat during the First World War.
