William Werrey bit.ly/william-werrey
William Werrey (or Werry) was christened 12 April 1726 in Duloe, Cornwall, son of Thomas Werry and Agnes Bowman née Bradlicke. I have a certified copy of a parish register entry from St Blazey, showing the marriage of a William Werrey to Ann Couch on 5 November 1752. Ann Couch was born in St Blazey, and died (apparently in childbirth) in September 1776 and was buried in St Austell. How I can prove the two men named above are one and the same individual? peterbottrell

My husband is onto a nonstarter with his family tree as he can’t find a registered birth for his father, Arthur Henry John Williams. As far as we know he was born on 10 December 1917 to Teresa Young and Lawrence Williams. They married on 27 January 1917. Arthur has two sisters Audrey and Beatrice, who have births, located on Ancestry to a Young.
We have located Teresa and Lawrence on the 1939 register at Wolverhampton Road, Worcestershire, with a closed record alongside them. Arthur died on 13 December 1987 so we sent his death certificate to Findmypast with the hope it was him, but this wasn’t to be. However, he was in the RAF at the time, so he probably wouldn’t be at home. We have obtained his RAF record, but this doesn’t enlighten us any further. He did have a passport, so we’re assuming he needed a birth certificate to obtain it. We have managed to locate a Catholic baptism with the help of clergy at Birmingham Cathedral – his name is Henry Arthur John on these papers, but it’s the same date of birth. His mother is Teresa Gertrude Young and his father is Lawrence Henry Williams. We have attempted to locate his birth record with every combination of the three names, and have even sought the help of Dudley Archives but all attempts to locate him have been unsuccessful. I am trying to identify the people in this photo (above). I believe they are relatives from Darvel or Galston, Ayrshire, Scotland. The baby appears to be wearing a christening robe trimmed with Darvel lace, and the elderly woman and children have lace collars. I think the elderly woman is likely to be 1) my 3x great grandmother Jane Loudoun 1807–1893, 2) my 3 x great grandmother Margaret McIntosh 1820–1894 or 3) my 2x great grandmother Margaret Lochore 1846– 1924. maggie1904
Winifred Ethel Lambert bit.ly/winifred-lambert
My paternal grandmother knew nothing about her family. I have done my own research and the only official details I can find are her entry notes when she was taken into the care of the Clewer Sisters in 1921 (an order of Anglican nuns who ran homes for neglected children).
These records tie in with her memories and known date of birth of 8 April 1911. If her DOB is correct, she missed the 1911 census as that was held at the very beginning of April.
The entry notes place her in Tilshead Lodge in Wiltshire. This was a racing stable, which fits with Nan’s memories of horses.
I know all the details from her entry into care onwards, so know where to find her in the 1921 census (at their home in Newport) and in 1939 (in service in Sandhurst, Gloucestershire). She married my grandfather in 1941, and died in 1994.
Somebody has put an incorrect Winifred Ethel Lambert into a tree on Ancestry – this namesake doesn’t fit with Nan’s story.
It is incredibly frustrating! My plan is to wait it out until 2022 and the census to see if this ‘J Wilde stepfather’ offers any new leads to her mother ‘Mrs Wilde’.
Alternatively I could get my DNA results and see if there are any matches. I am a bit in the dark about DNA ancestry, so could it be specific enough to say I am related via my paternal grandmother?
