Abandoned Engineering
Thursday 9 July, 8pm Yesterday
Whether it’s the thrill of exploring somewhere that might be haunted or the beauty of the way nature encroaches on man-made structures, there’s something fascinating about seeing buildings that are falling into disrepair.
This helps to explain why Abandoned Engineering is on its sixth series. The format is largely unchanged: each episode explores the history of buildings that were on the cutting edge of engineering or design, but have fallen on hard times. At what cost were these buildings constructed, and could they find new uses?
The latest batch of episodes promises to take viewers to a Jamaican pirate city, a gulag in Croatia and an evocative train graveyard in the heart of Ethiopia.
