Windsor settle into higher division with back-to-back wins

-

Newly promoted Windsor Ladies First XI had a shaky start to the season but are settling into a higher league with back-to-back wins.

On Saturday they put in a winning 3-2 performance away against a formidable Reading Ladies 4s side in Trysports Premier Division 2.

Following a confidence boosting 3-0 home win against Oxford Hawks Ladies 4s the previous week, Windsor were sharp from the whistle and keen to get the first goal, pushing Reading back into their own third.

And the pressure paid off when Clare McKinnel drilled the ball into the D where cocaptain Maxine Bonnage was waiting to slam it into the back of the net.

Reading levelled with an effort that goalkeeper Ruki

Sayid half-saved, but the pace of the shot saw the ball carried over the line. Reading's striker ghosted in at the far post to connect with a hopeful lob and make it 2-1 early in the second half.

And it took an exceptional Windsor goal to level the score.

A fierce injection from Helena Davidson was expertly deflected in by Elle Gatehouse

Then, as the clock ticked down, co-captain Freya Hayter drilled in a cross following a signature run and Bonnage was there to powerfully sweep it beyond the keeper for her second and Windsor's third.

Windsor saw the game out without losing their nerve and the three points have seen them leap to fourth, ahead of Sonning Ladies 2s on goal difference.

They have a week off and will be back in action on Saturday, November 7 when they host Henley Ladies 2s.

Windsor's newly launched Ladies 3s are enjoying a sensational start to their debut season as they top Division 7 and remain unbeaten in four out of four games.

On Saturday, they won 4-1 against Milton Keynes Ladies 5s at home with goals from captain Natalie Morrison, Holly Sampson, Vicky Thompson and Rachel
