Slough salvage a draw on the road

Pink n' Blacks twice come from behind against Wimbledon

-

Slough Ladies twice came from behind to force a 2-2 draw away to Wimbledon 2nds in their Division One South encounter on Saturday.

But captain Kat McGonigle said they had created enough opportunities to have won the game.

“It was much the same story as before,” she said.

“We are doing well on the ball, but not putting our chances away, which is very frustrating.

“We are the better side in games, but not picking up as many points as we should be.”

Sophie Shakespeare opened the scoring for the hosts with just eight minutes played and it wasn’t until 10 minutes into the second half when Mel Ball equalised from a penalty corner.

The Pink ‘n’ Blacks found themselves trailing again when Sam Smith scored the home side’s second in the 51st minute, but this time it took Slough just five minutes to draw level through Lizzy Totten, again from a penalty corner, her third goal in five matches.

The Upton Court

Park team switched goalkeepers during the game with Savarna Val replacing Daisy Hacking.

A pupil at Upton Court Grammar School, it was the 16-year-old’s league debut and a dream come true for her as she had come up through the club’s junior ranks.

“She has been training well and deserved her chance,” commented McGonigle.

Savarna was named her side’s player of the match with Immie Brown also deserving an honourable mention.

This coming Saturday (1.30pm pushback) Slough are away to Surbiton 2nds, who are still seeking their first win of the season.

Slough Men 1sts secured their first point in the MBBO Premier Division Two West thanks to a 1-1 draw with Reading 2nds at Upton Court Park, their goal coming from Floris Verhaar.

Slough are away to Oxford OBU on Saturday, taking on inform opponents who have netted nine goals in their last two matches.
