Businesses shut doors for start of new lockdown
Windsor MP rebels against Government’s month-long measures
Businesses and residents are adjusting to life in lockdown once more after new measures came in to force yesterday (Thursday).
A second lockdown has been introduced to curb rising COVID-19 infection rates, with the Prime Minister warning on Saturday that ‘the virus is spreading even faster than the reasonable worst case scenarios of our scientific advisors’.
Pubs, restaurants, leisure facilities and nonessential shops in England must shut until December 2, while further restrictions have been introduced to stop households mixing.
Unlike the first lockdown, schools, colleges and nurseries will remain open.
The Express spoke to businesses in the retail, hospitality and culture sectors as they prepared to shut their doors this week, with some raising concerns over the financial impact of the latest lockdown.
We also have reaction from both the Slough and Royal Borough councils while, in the House of Commons, Windsor’s Adam Afriyie was one of a handful of MPs to vote against the lockdown.
The impact on education, finances and mental health is also assessed.
See p3-7 for our series of reports on the impact of the second lockdown for Royal Borough and Slough residents.
