Councillors led us up the garden centre path

-

Aldi’s application to build a new superstore on the last remaining garden centre in Dedworth is a major issue for many residents. Yet our WWRA Party councillors have done little or nothing to explain this important application (and its impact) to residents.

Last year these councillorss promised during their election campaign to buy the garden centre. Through a freedom of information request a local resident found that the WWRA party councillors held only one meeting with council officers in 18 months to discuss this key election pledge.

At the planning panel both councillors objected to Aldi taking over the site despite the council’s planning team and all but one member of the planning panel approving the proposal.

This was political nonsense from the WWRA party councillors who clearly dropped the ball on this matter.

What a farce.

Residents will have different views on Aldi’s application, but they deserve better from their local councillors who have forgotten that they represent all residents and not just their own political party interests.

Let’s hope that Aldi ignores this farce and gets on with their store and creating choice, jobs and prosperity for all residents. ED WILSON Bryer Place
