Fire breaks out at block of flats

SLOUGH: Fire crews spent more than two hours tackling a blaze at a block of flats in Slough on Saturday night.

The fire broke out at The Grove flats with Thames Valley Police, South Central Ambulance and fire crews from Langley, Slough, Windsor, Buckingham­shire and London attending the incident at around 7.45pm.

Slough Borough Council sent a building control inspector and arranged overnight accommodat­ion for the residents who could not return to their flats. A total of 12 people were led to safety and taken to hospital as a precaution. Crews stayed until about 10.30pm to make sure the scene was safe.

Thames Valley Police arrested a 42-year-old man from Slough and a 38-year-old woman, of no fixed abode, on suspicion of arson with intent in connection with the incident. The woman has been released on bail until December 11 and the man was released without charge.
