Carrera Cup winner signs off with wins at Brands Hatch
Harry King concluded his glorious rookie season in the Porsche Carrera Cup with a stunning double victory at Brands Hatch this weekend, notching his 12th race win of the season in the process.
The Holyport driver had wrapped up the championship title with his victories at Snetterton the previous month, but Brands Hatch would prove his, and Team Parker Racing’s, crowning glory.
Reflecting on his incredible debut campaign, King said: “To have this much success in a season has been amazing and there is nothing to compare to it; it’s been the best year of my racing career by far.
“I have to give huge thanks to Porsche for selecting me to be the Junior Driver and also thank everyone at
Team Parker Racing for providing me with such a fantastic car all season.
“I know what I would like to do in the future and we need to see what happens in 2021, but I’m looking forward to once again being at the wheel of a Porsche for another season.”
The Porsche GB Junior driver posted the quickest time in testing on Friday.
But, in tricky and wet conditions on the Kent circuit, he fell just 0.002 seconds shy of a clean sweep of pole positions as Scott McKenna edged him out.
However, when the lights went green King wasted little time in moving to the front of the field, re-taking first place on lap one before easing away from the field only for the safety car to be deployed to recover a car from the gravel at Paddock Hill Bend.
King came under pressure from Matty Graham and McKenna on the resumption but when his rivals collided on the final lap King avoided any collateral damage and was able to take another victory.
Starting fifth on the grid for race two, King again showed his talent to move to the front with some outstanding overtaking manoeuvres. The safety car was deployed once more, but he controlled the race from the front in the remaining laps to end the season in the best possible way.
King added: “I’m a little disappointed to lose our qualifying record at the last round, but the races are what really matters and to end the season with another two wins is fantastic. I felt so confident in the car again this weekend and you always want to end a season well so you can go into the winter on a high.”
