18-year-old knifed in back

-

CIPPENHAM: Police were given increased stop and search powers for 24 hours in Cippenham after an 18-year-man suffered a knife wound to his back.

The attack occurred on Saturday night at about 8.45pm.

In response, Thames Valley Police sent out an increased number of uniformed police officers. It authorised a Section 60 order – powers to stop and search ‘without reasonable grounds’.

The order applied to the area ending with the A4 Bath Road, Cippenham Lane, Tunns Lane and the M4. It ended at 2pm on Sunday.

Inspector John

Braddy, based at Slough police station, said: “I fully appreciate the concern that incidents such as this cause in the community.

“These orders exist to help the police prevent serious violence and we do not take decisions to enact them lightly.

“Thank you to the local community for their co-operation while this was in place and I hope that the high visibility police patrols provided some reassurance to you.

“Although this order has now been lifted, I would issue a stark warning to anybody who feels that they can carry weapons, that our officers will still be able to apply their ordinary stop and search powers.

“This requires officers to have reasonable grounds of suspecting someone of carrying a weapon, controlled drug or any other tool to commit crime, and can and will be conducted if deemed necessary.

“If anyone has any information about anyone who carries a weapon, I would urge you to report it to police by calling 101 or reporting it online.”
