Robust debate doesn’t mean angry words
Each week your paper commendably covers the proceedings of the various
Royal Borough committees.
This is an important role for the local press. However the behaviour of our elected representatives in those meetings leaves a lot to be desired.
The electors of Windsor and Maidenhead expect their councillors to engage in robust debate about matters important to the life of the area.
What we read about or witness in those meetings is angry words being bandied around to no good effect.
Could I ask through your pages that committee members and chairmen take stock of how they go about resolving differences and find a way of approaching matters in a more adult and effective manner.
Perhaps your paper should refuse to fill your letters page with overspill from these meetings. The letters page is for your readers not for councillors who have plenty of opportunity to voice their views in appropriate and powerful settings.
