Lockdown ‘slowed momentum’ but Parrott sets out plans for girls’ teams

-

Myke Parrott is optimistic he will be able to establish an u13s and an u17s girls squad at Maidenhead Rugby Club in the near future.

Inspired by the popularity of the Ladies senior game, director of rugby Parrott has set out plans to develop two new youth sides at the club.

Working with Ladies Head Coach Matt Snudden, Parrott believes there is ‘great potential’ for Maids to grow.

“Lockdown came at the worst possible time because we had some fantastic momentum going with the ladies,” said Parrott.

“At one session we had 22 ladies training which was quite brilliant really. Matt has done a sterling job and we now need that to carry on.

“We hope this coming season can almost be treated like a preseason with the aim of getting back into competitive action next September.

“We will use this time to try and improve numbers, fitness and tactical understanding.

“I want to establish an u13 girls side which we’re in discussion of sorting this week,” added Parrott.

“We will be reaching out to local schools and potentially going into them to speak to their girls about coming down to Maidenhead to play.

“We also want to establish an u17 girls squad that will hopefully train alongside the ladies so that they can grow in the next couple of years and get that pipeline strong.

“The possibilities really are endless. This section is really exciting, it’s right at its inception. It’s going well so far and we still have a lot of work to do but I think there is some good signs and some really great potential there. They’re a brilliant bunch.”
