Primary school to convert to academy
SLOUGH: Khalsa Primary School has been given the go-ahead by the Department for Education (DfE) to convert into an academy.
The school, in Wexham Road, will be overseen by the newly formed Sikh Academies Trust with the change due to come into effect from February 1.
Governors at the school said six consultations have been carried out with parents and the community about the switch with an ‘overwhelming majority’ of people favouring the move.
The school’s governing board said academy status will allow it to broaden the curriculum, provide greater control of how money is spent and provide more control over the development and growth of the school.
In August, the DfE also made an ‘inprinciple’ decision to transfer the running of Khalsa Secondary Academy, in Stoke Poges, to the Sikh Academies Trust.
