Rebels nominate local charities for funding

-

Slough Town are delighted to nominate two local charities, The

London and Slough Run (LASR) and Helen & Douglas House for FA Community Shield funding.

This year, the club have chosen to split the proceeds between the two charities with both receiving £1,000. Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, it has not been feasible to present the two organisations with their cheques at home matches, but they have both given their reaction to the award.

Slough Town FC has worked with LASR in recent times and last year, the club hosted an event at Arbour Park before Christmas where they provided a Christmas dinner, hairdresser, chiropodist, food and other personal items, and a bit of entertainment for the homeless with the support of LASR and Slough Outreach.

John Power, Chairman of LASR - Helping the Homeless and People in need, said: “Slough Town FC are at the very heart of our community. The management, players and fans have supported us over many years in our efforts to help the homeless and vulnerable members of our community.

“This award from the Community Shield fund is very welcome at a time when our ability to fundraise has been curtailed and the demand for our service is rising. We are very grateful to all at the Club for their steadfast support and solidarity."

Helen and Douglas House provides hospice care and helps local families cope with the challenges of looking after a terminally ill baby or child.

Alison Stone, Community Fundraising Manager at Helen & Douglas House, said: “We want to thank you for your donation of

£1,000 through the FA Community Shield in memory of Harry Stock.

“We greatly appreciate you supporting Helen & Douglas House - your support is needed now more than ever.”
