Nojus makes case for defence after clean sheet

-

Windsor FC goalkeeper Nojus Trinovas hailed his fellow Royalists’ defensive efforts after they claimed an all-important 2-0 victory against Reading City on Saturday.

With poor defending playing a key role in Windsor’s position in the Hellenic Premier Division, the Royalists displayed some much improved focus and organisation against the Cityzens to help them pick up their first clean sheet of the season.

They might not have done had it not been for Trinovas’ superb reflexes to deny Mo Davies in the second half. The Royalists’ shotstopper had little to do before that moment but was alert when required, to help his side secure maximum points.

“After a long time without football, we knew anything could happen playing against this side,” said Trinovas.

“Fortunately they didn’t have too many clear cut opportunities but when I was called into action, I made sure I was there. The defence in front of me and the outfield players really made my life easier during that game.

“Before the match, Coops (Mark Cooper) said to us how we needed to strive to get the clean sheet. All the good teams in the league, that’s what they’re sustaining right now. I must say, the back four played really well and we dictated the game.

“As a ‘keeper, it’s really hard to build confidence and really easy to lose it. So a performance like this is really good for me and something I’ll be taking into our next game.”

The Royalists will face fourthplaced Bishop's Cleeve this Saturday and, inspired by their recent victory, Trinovas is feeling confident about his side’s chances.

“I think we’re really capable [to get a result],” he added.

“If you look at just before lockdown, we were really building something. Although we weren’t getting the results, I think people who were spectating and watching the matches could really see we had the spark about us.

“That’s something we’re working on and as a young side, there are a lot of things we’ve got to learn and that will come game by game.

“This win, after six or seven weeks off, has definitely given us a confidence boost so that is something we will definitely take into this weekend’s game.”
