Scout group aims to raise over £300,000
A scout group in Sunningdale is holding a series of open mornings this weekend as it looks to raise more than £300,000 for a new scout hut.
Held at the scout hut in Sandy Lane, 1st Sunningdale Scouts will be providing residents with an opportunity to view and discuss the plans for a rebuild.
The open mornings will take place between 10am and 11.30am on Saturday and Sunday this weekend.
The current scout hut was built in
1967, and is in a ‘sad state of disrepair’. It is hoped that the campaign to modernise the site will bring a more efficient building which makes more use of existing space.
If successful, the rebuild could allow double the amount of young people to enjoy scouting in Sunningdale. Access for all would be available, ensuring the creation of wheelchair access and facilities.
Furthermore, the group say the heating, lighting and use of water will be more sustainable, linking in with the ethos of the scouting world, and a garden will also be created to ensure bio-diversity.
Two-thirds of the required funding is set to be raised through grants and charitable organisations, with the remaining £100,000 raised by fundraising activities and events over the next year-and-a-half.
Chair for the executive committee of 1st Sunningdale Scouts, Michael
King, said: “We would love the local community to come down, look at our plans and support us on our Open Mornings.
“We are fortunate to have a range of leaders and volunteers who are working tirelessly to make our plans a reality, and are lucky too, to have the support of a number of our neighbours.”
