Bees looking to build on first four-point haul against Bison and Wildcats

-

Slough's TSI World Bees claimed their first four-point haul of the season last weekend following comprehensive victories over the Raiders IHC and the Leeds Knights, two teams above them in the early NIHL National Division standings.

Christian Mohr - an 18-year-old currently dual registered with the Slough Jets - scored his first goal for the club in Friday's 5-1 away win over the Raiders, while Sunday saw them claim an equally impressive 5-2 home win over the Knights.

After a mixed start to the season the trajectory is starting to make an upward curve and the Bees go into this weekend's derby matches against the Basingstoke Bison and Swindon Wildcats in seventh place.

It's been a while since the Bees had a full complement of players to choose from, but players are slowly returning from injury and new signings Skate Skalde and Joe Baird have strengthened head coach Doug Sheppard's hand going into matches.

Saturday's hosts the Bison have had a mixed start so far and sit a place below the Bees in eighth having won just one of their six matches in regulation time.

They suffered successive defeats to the Sheffield Steeldogs last weekend, losing 4-3 at home and 6-3 on the road.

Third placed Swindon have won three of their first five matches and ran out convincing 7-4 winners over Milton Keynes in their only match last weekend.

Sunday’s game with Swindon also promises to be a special night for captain Stuart Mogg as he looks set to play his 500th senior game. At the age of just 27 he is one of the younger players to have achieved this accolade.

Sheppard said: “Things are going well and we’re coming off first fourpoint weekend this season.

“I like the fact that we're getting scoring spread throughout line-up and we're getting good goaltending also. I think we can still improve but we must stay grounded, stay focussed and take it a game at a time and keep this run going.

Bees play in Basingstoke on Saturday at 6.30pm before Sunday’s home game against Swindon at 5pm.
