Glovers are held as Rebels extend unbeaten home run to 19 matches

- Slough Town 0, Yeovil Town 0 Slough Town FC

Slough Town kept their play-off hopes alive as they held league leaders Yeovil Town to a goalless draw at Arbour Park on Saturday.

Yeovil held a nine-point lead over their closest challengers in the race for automatic promotion to the National League, but they weren’t able to bring an end to the Rebels long unbeaten run on home soil.

It’s now over seven months, and 19 games in all competitions since Scott Davies’ side were last beaten on their own ground.

And in Davies’ 200th game for the club, they worked incredibly hard to nullify the leaders and ensure this contest finished as a stalemate.

The hosts also managed to restore a little pride and confidence after going down to a disappointing 2-1 defeat at relegation-threatened Havant & Waterlooville in mid-week.

The result – in a game of precious few clear-cut chances for either team – sees the Rebels drop a place to 11th in the National League South table, and they’re now eight points off the play-offs with a game in hand over seventh placed St Albans City.

They’re back at Arbour Park again next weekend when relegation threatened Eastbourne Borough are the visitors.

Having been recalled from his loan spell with Bracknell Town, Gabe George went straight into the starting line-up against Yeovil and played his part in another accomplished defensive display. There was little to choose between the sides in the opening 25 minutes, with Matt Lench going close with a shot from distance that flashed a whisker wide.

The Rebels’ sights of goal were few and far between, but they got another one when Nathan Minhas won the hosts a free kick in a dangerous area in the 55th minute. However, on this occasion Davies couldn’t add to his collection of special free-kicks this season as he failed to trouble Day in the Yeovil goal. The 1,533 fans inside Arbour Park continued to cheer on the home side and they had cause to applaud their side once again in the 60th minute when Lench’s free kick was headed goalwards by Temi Eweka but Day was there to make the save. Trae Cook-Appiah caused trouble with his direct running late in the game, but Slough weren't able to cash in following a goalmouth scramble in the 80th minute. Josh Jackman also went close with a shot that flew wide in the final 10 minutes, but this was another impressive home display from the Rebels who fully merited their point.
