Brute subjected victim to horror ordeal at home

A sex beast has been convicted of sexually assaulting a woman at a house in Wishaw with the intent to rape her.

William Slaven appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court to answer a total of eight charges against him.

The 47-year-old sexually assaulted the woman, who can’t be named for legal reasons, at a house in the town on November 1 last year.

Slaven repeatedly demanded that she engage in sexual activity and did this with the intent to rape her.

However, the woman’s ordeal did not end there.

Slaven was also convicted of breaching his bail conditions on several occasions following his arrest.

On November 18 last year, Slaven first breached the terms of his bail by repeatedly making telephone calls to the woman at a social club and to the address where he carried out his horrific crime.

The following day, Slaven breached his bail conditions by writing a letter to his victim before writing a further letter to the woman and posting it through the letterbox at South Wishaw Parish Church on December 4.

In the final charge, Slaven was convicted of a further bail breach.

Between January 23 and January 30 he continued to send text messages and calls to his victim.

Slaven’s not guilty plea of assaulting a man on November 1 by repeatedly pushing him on the body and grabbing a mobile phone from his hand was accepted by The Crown.

Slaven also denied behaving in a threatening manner by shouting, swearing and placing a woman, a man and two young children in a state of fear and alarm. This charge was also dropped.

A not guilty plea from Slaven on account of entering the Wishaw street where he carried out the attack on January 30 was also accepted.

Slaven, whose address was given in court as HMP Addiewell, will return to Hamilton Sheriff Court on June 26 to be sentenced.
