services for their big day after Wishaw woman Michelle McMorris, 43, and her husband Alastair, 44, closed down Glasgow store Happy Talk Events without warning.
The pair have completely cut off all means of contact with angry customers desperate to know what has happened to their cash.
The couple are now thought to have gone off to a second home in Orlando, Florida, USA, after bolting from their house in Wishaw.
Kristina Allan, 28, from Wishaw, who is planning her summer 2017 wedding to fiancé James Loughran, 30, said they have lost £750 after booking a package offered by Happy Talk Events in January.
The first she knew of any problems was when she saw Facebook posts at the weekend from several other concerned couples.
She said: “I saw people saying they were going bust.
“I messaged the owner, Michelle, but she said everything was fine and lawyers were dealing with it.
“She even said I could go to see her next week.
“But then I saw their website and Facebook was down, and I couldn’t get in touch with them.”
Kristina tried to track down McMorris at her home address in Wishaw – only to be told by neighbours that she and her husband had upped sticks to America four weeks ago.
Michelle’s mum, Cathy Smith, 72, said the devastation her daughter has caused has not surprised her.
Cathy, a business owner, has been estranged from Michelle for a decade because of the McMorrises’ thirst for the good life – at any cost.
She said: “I didn’t bring Michelle up to be like this. She was my only child and has changed.
“It’s all about money. I haven’t spoken to her for at least 13 years.
“I’m not shocked by this because she hurt me so much.
“She took my granddaughter Erin away from me. I do miss Michelle but I don’t know who she is any more.
“It’s heart-breaking.”
