Charity shop appeal after premises flood

PDSA launch donations bid in wake of water damage

- Lynn McKenna

A Wishaw charity shop have issued an urgent appeal for donations after a flood damaged hundreds of items.

Staff and volunteers from the PDSA shop in Main Street arrived to find the basement flooded with four inches of water.

The severe water damage destroyed around £700 worth of damage and forced the store to temporarily close to the public causing them to lose out on much-needed money.

PDSA Area Retail Manager, Ian McFarlane, said the flooding had destroyed around 50 bags of donated stock.

He said: “The flooding started last week and we’ve had to close until Thursday so we can clear out all the excess water and tidy up ready to re-open to the public. “Everyone is devastated. “We’ve lost so many donated items and we’ve had to temporarily shut so we can’t raise desperately needed money for sick and injured pets.

“I can’t praise our staff and volunteers enough for battling on to prevent us losing out even more.”

Mr McFarlane said the flooding has now stopped, although the cause remains a mystery.

The shop has issued an urgent appeal for donations of any items of clothing, shoes or accessories that the shop could sell to raise money for sick and injured pets in need.

Donations can be taken to the shop from Monday to Saturday, between 9am and 5pm To help, please call the shop on (01698) 356774 or email wishaw.shop@pdsa.org.uk
