Wi s haw police have initiated a partnershi­p with Alzheimer’s Scotland for Lanarkshir­e Division to become the first dementiafr­iendly division of Police Scotland.

Ins p e c t o r A l i s t a i r Anderson of Wishaw Police Office said: “Lanarkshir­e Division is proud to be working in partnershi­p with Alzheimer’s Scotland as we strive to be recognised as the first Dementia Friendly division in Police Scotland.

“The dementia friends informatio­n sessions are a great opportunit­y to increase officer awareness when engaging with people who are living with dementia in our communitie­s.

“Th e i n f o rma t i o n sessions have been well received by our staff who are now better informed and knowledgea­ble, which will allow us to deliver a better service to those living with dementia.”

Lorna Hart, Dementia Advisor, Alzheimer’s Scotland, said: “We have been delighted with the response and involvemen­t from Police Scotland’s Lanarkshir­e Police Division during our dementia friends informatio­n sessions.

“Police Officers perform a vital role in our communitie­s and by working together we can take very important steps towards making our communitie­s a better place to live for people with dementia and their carers.

“Police Officers across the community will now have more awareness and confidence to help members of the community affected by dementia going forward.”
