Songs and stories are Garth’s top weapons

International artist plays gig in Wishaw

- David Dochnenko

International singersongwriter Garth Hewitt visited Wishaw to play his only show in Scotland this year, as part of his Strange Weapons Tour.

He was delighted to return to Wishaw because he was made so welcome the last time he was here in 2013, and flew up from London especially for the event in South Wishaw Church on Saturday, June 4.

All profits made will go to the Amos Trust, a human rights charity which Garth founded in 1985.

The trust was founded to give a voice to the untold stories of the people he met during his 40 years of touring.

These stories behind his songs were told, the journeys that led to them, and the people that inspired them, and lead the audience on a journey across the globe from India and South Africa to Latin America.

On his current tour, Garth has been revisiting some of his earlier material, inspired by the interest sparked by the re-releasing of his early work, which has been made available to download or on CD, and has been much in demand.

Garth’s first album, “The Lion and the Lamb” was released in 1973, with his latest effort “Something for the Soul” coming in 2014.

He has released almost 40 albums, covering a wide range of subjects and styles, including two for children, one in Spanish and a recording of Chartist hymns from the 1840s which Garth put to music.
