Lodge mark their 60th year
Lodge Dura No.1513 Allanton celebrated their 60th anniversary last week with a special jubilee meeting held in the Masonic Temple in Cambusnethan.
RWM Bro. Martin Halliday welcomed over 100 members and visitors from across the country as well as visitors from County Antrim in Northern Ireland and Dulwich Park in London. Deputations were received from the Provincial Grand Lodge of the Middle Ward of Lanarkshire and from the Mother Lodge, Kilwinning.
The Mother Lodge, re-enacted their version of an ‘ Auld Degree circa 1695’ in costume of that period , which was greatly appreciated by the assembled audience.
A celebratory meal followed the meeting. Springhill Marble Club The entertainment for members and friends begins with bingo on Sunday afternoon in the lounge at 1.30pm. Bingo is held in the main hall on Monday and Thursday evenings at 9pm. The gala’s civic week starts on Monday, June 20, with every one’s favourite vocal entertainer Mr Jackie Clarke, plus free bingo, raffle and pie and peas. All welcome, doors open 7pm; free entry. Wednesday, June 22 will see the kiddies disco, with Loony Toons from 6.30pm to 8.30pm with fun and games, glitter tattoos, dancing, special guests and a goodie bag. Saturday, June 25 sees the kids disco from 2pm to 4pm then for the adults Highway Jones will be performing from 8pm till late; £2 entry. Sunday club is available for younger children and teenagers at 11.20am. Anyone interested in joining can find details on the church website at www. calderhead-erskine-church.com. Adult learning North Lanarkshire Council’s lifelong learning team have a range of free learning programmes for adults, with short employability courses for CV preparation, preparing for job interviews and job searches. These courses are held in Shotts Community Centre, Kirk Road, on Tuesday mornings at 9.30am to 11.30am. English support classes, adult literacy and numeracy support classes and SQA-certificated introduction to computer courses will be held in Newmains, Pather, Shotts and Harthill. Eastfield and Harthill Flute Orchestra The orchestra hold rehearsals on Sunday afternoons from 4pm in the Benhar Hall, (former school kitchen building), Benhar Road, Eastfield. They are looking for new members who want to learn how to play the flute or ex-members who wish to come back after a break. Allanton Parish Church This Sunday a joint communion service will be held at Calderhead Erskine at 12 noon. After the service a celebration lunch for the Queen’s 90th birthday will be held in the memorial hall, all welcome. The church is open each Wednesday afternoon from 1pm to 3pm for a quiet time of prayer. Mother and toddlers groupmeets in the church hall every Tuesday morning at 9.30am. The Women’s Guild has now stopped for its summer break. Karate class meets in the church hall each Wednesday evening at 6.30pm. Street dance classes are held in the church hall every Thursday evening at 6pm to 7pm and 7pm to 8pm, and on Saturday mornings at 10am. Youth group meets in the Senior Citizen Centre each Friday evening at 7pm to 9pm.
