Girls’ Brigade 1st Shotts Girls’ Brigade Company held their annual display and presentati­on of awards in Calderhead Erskine Parish Church on Wednesday, May 25. ‘A Girl for All Seasons’ took family and friends through ‘autumn’ with a puppet show, written and performed by the Juniors; ‘winter’ saw members of the audience helping the girls to build a snowman; ‘spring’ saw the Explorers dressed as flowers and dancing to ‘Little April Showers’; Brigaders and officers went ‘Singin in the Rain’ and finally, everyone went on a ‘Summer Holiday’. The colourful and entertaini­ng display put a smile on everyone’s face. Before the presentati­on of awards Gillian Agnew, Company captain, shared the news that the 15 girls and officers who participat­ed in the Cancer Research Race for Life at Hopetoun House on May 15, as part of the Company’s Duke of Edinburgh Diamond Challenge, raised £1606 for Cancer Research UK and £105 for the Duke of Edinburgh. The company thank everyone who supported their cause by making a donation. Following this, Jenifer Kane presented the following awards and prizes: Primary One: Bronze Star, one year’s service, armband – Chloe Hyslop, Connie Begley, Aara Sweeney; bronze star, armband – Taylor Healy, Paige Brown; new member – Isla Irvine. Primary Two: Silver star, one year’s service, armband – Georgia Henry, Rosemary Galbraith, Sophie Seery; silver star, two years’ service – Kati Downie, Emily Brown; new members – Kelsi Wilson, Danielle Rankin. Primary Three: Gold Star, one year’s service, armband – Katie Gonnella; gold star, two years’ service – Jessica Murphy, Nia O’Kane; Not been a member long enough for an award – Skye Clark. Primary Four: 1st Junior Circle, four years’ service – Morgan Montgomery, Kayleigh Wood. Primary Five: 2nd Junior Circle, four years’ service – Jade McKeown, Neve King; second Junior Circle, five years’ service – Alice Walker; Not been a member long enough to get an award – Aimee Easton, Damita Mkelemi, Kacey Burns. Primary Six: 1st Diamond, four years’ service – Lucy McLellend. Primary Seven: 2nd Diamond, one year’s service, armband – Megan John; 2nd Diamond, four years’ service – Charley Ann Hardie. S4: Eleven years’ service – Aileen McLuskie. Thirteen years’ service – Marianne McLuskie. Twelve years’ service – Rachael Gallagher. Ten years’ service – Jenna McLean. For 100 per cent attendance at Company - Alice Walker, Jade McKeown, Aileen McLuskie. For 90 per cent attendance or more - Chloe Hyslop, Connie Begley, Kati Downie, Nia O’Kane, Kayleigh Wood, Neve King, Lucy McLelland. Winners of the company 10-pin bowling competitio­n: Explorers – Nia O’Kane (119); Juniors – Charley Ann Hardie (119); Brigaders – Bethany Strang (77); officers – Susan Macfarlane and Val Macfarlane (103). Overall winner and company champions - Nia O’Kane and Charley Ann Hardie.
