No Djok, Novak is one of a kind

-

History was made on Sunday as Novak Djokovic became the third person ever to hold all four Grand Slams at the same time.

Many people, myself included, have often regarded Roger Federer as the greatest of all time.

Whilst I still believe the Swiss star is the best the game has ever seen, Djokovic made a very strong claim to steal that moniker.

The only two other players to have achieved the same feat as the Serb were Don Budge and Rod Laver.

With all due respect, holding all four majors back in 1938 and 1962 respectively is nowhere near as big of an achievement as now.

Not considering men’s tennis is being played at a greater level than ever before.

Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray are present dangers at every Slam when they are all fighting fit.

I was cheering for Andy Murray on Sunday and after his semi-final showing against Stan Wawrinka I thought he had a great chance.

It wasn’t to be though, but for Murray to be in finals during this era of tennis and be ranked second best in the world shows he is the greatest sportsman that we have ever produced.

But make no bones about it, this was Djok’s day, not a Jock’s day.

Novak stormed to victory and looked a hundred times more composed than he was last year in the final when he threw away the chance against Wawrinka.

The fact he holds all four Grand Slams is unbelievable.

However, he is now becoming unstoppable.

Murray thrives at Wimbledon, as clichéd as it sounds the crowd lift him to greater heights and he digs even deeper to produce his traditional gutsy performances.

However, I fear if Murray does not defeat Djokovic this year, we may see another 12 month’s of Serbian dominance in the tennis world.

Murray is the only man to beat Djokovic in a Wimbledon final so we know he has what it takes.

Djokovic will most likely close out the year with a US Open win. He thrives on the hard courts which is why he already looks a shoo-in for the Australian Open next year.

Nobody can take away the history created by Djokovic, but every player on the tour can take away

Sunday was Djok’s day, not a Jock’s day
