Remaining in the EU is only way for MP Marion

-

It is just over one week until we take to the polls to determine our future in the EU.

I will be voting to Remain. For decades, the EU has secured peace amongst member states.

Peace is something that we in Scotland take for granted and today war in Europe is unimaginable. By working together with our European partners, we have strengthened the country.

Free trade with a market of over 500 million people which is worth more than £2000 per Scot has allowed our economy to flourish.

This has allowed Scottish exports to expand across Europe, particularly our famous food and drink.

But our people are also exported across Europe with over one million British immigrants in Spain alone.

Any EU Citizen can travel, but also live and work anywhere within the EU’s borders.

Welcoming those with the best skills to work here has not only benefited our economy by making a net contribution of £20 billion, but it has enabled Scots to work abroad also,

One way to defend ourselves against his right wing agenda is to put the EU in his way.

We know how damaging Tory policies can be. Foodbank use has skyrocketed since Tory welfare ‘reforms’ were imposed.

I recently convened a Poverty Action Network meeting with the aim to tackle foodbank referrals by using other methods to empower people. Small steps such as benefit checks can ensure individuals maintain their independence.

The members of PAN plan to work together in co-operation to tackle the issues we face. Similarly, the Scottish Steel Task Force which comprised of MPs, MSPs, local authorities and trade unions worked together in co-operation to secure a buyer for our steelworks which is now beginning to recruit 100 new staff members and more in the new year.

This has secured well-paying jobs in the community and a future for steel.

These examples show that through our collective efforts and co-operation, we can overcome any challenge.

It is for that reason I will be voting Remain, and I urge you to do so too.
