Sickened residents claim out-of-control gangs causing terror at notorious flats in Wishaw broke into a dead man’s property and stole his clothes to feed their booze and drug habits.
Neighbours have been left disgusted and living in fear of thugs who are terrorising and intimidating the vulnerable and elderly in Harestone Crescent.
Some of the antisocial behaviour that have left neighbours at their wits’ end include:
Breaking into properties and ransacking the flats
Kicking down doors and assaulting householders Setting fire to bins and flats Drug taking and drug selling and using the area as a drinking den
Councillor Sam Love said the council have created a ‘ghetto’ and has called for the demolition of the flats if the housing department continue to dump ‘undesirables’ in the area.

Neighbours have been left sickened and living in fear of thugs who are terrorising and intimidating people in Harestone Crescent.
Now they are calling for action to tackle the antisocial behaviour taking place in the one-bedroom flats including:
• Breaking into properties and ransacking the flats
• Kicking down doors and assaulting householders • Setting fire to bins and flats • Drug taking and drug selling • Using the area as a drinking den One disgusted resident said: “Once a dead body is taken out the flat, they are then breaking into it and taking people’s stuff and selling it. That is what they are doing. They are taking jeans and everything. That is what they are doing.”
Police confirmed a householder’s flat had been broken into and property stolen while he was in Wishaw General Hospital.
The Wishaw Press reported last week that a terrified resident fearing for his life had been forced out of his home after firebugs deliberately torched his flat.
The occupier vowed not to return to the property following the blaze
which police are treating as wilful fireraising.
Fed- up tenants say they are living in fear of the gangs who are targeting people and causing antisocial behaviour.
One residents said there is trouble every weekend in Harestone Crescent.
“The other night there were five police vans there,” he added.
“Is anyone going to get moved? If so, where are they going to put them? “We need more pensioners living there.”
The issues at Harestone Crescent were raised at this month’s Central Wishaw Community Council held in the Houldsworth Centre
Speaking at the meeting, Councillor Sam Love said the local authority’s housing department had created a ‘ghetto’ in Harestone Crescent.
“We got doors fixed and the footpath resurfaced,” he added.
“They have created a ghetto because it became a hard to let area.”
Another resident said troublemakers are in and out each others’ flats and drinking. “They should split them up,” she added. “One gets paid on a Monday and they sit and drink in that flat. Then on Tuesday another gets paid and they drink in their flat. Then on a Wednesday someone else is paid and they drink in that flat.”
