Mural delights at care home
Art work boosts dementia patients
Artistic pupils from Dalziel High School brought the outdoors in for residents at Park Springs Care Home in Motherwell.
The talented amateur artists from S1 and S2 completed a colourful mural of an autumn scene along the corridor of the care home.
The art work was developed in partnership with the home and the school to support the residents who suffer with dementia, as the mural is aimed to be a stimulus and encourage more interaction.
The colourful scene was completed by pupils over four weeks, under the watchful eye of its designer and Dalziel High School art teacher, Kevin Polin.
Mr Polin said: “The school and the pupils were delighted to be asked to help the home and the children worked very hard to produce the mural, which we hope will provide a lot of enjoyment for the residents for years to come.
“The project was an education for the pupils in more ways than one as they were able to interact with the residents and get a better understanding of living with dementia.”
Care home Lead Activity Coordinator, Rosemary Brennan said: “The past four weeks have brought lots of happiness to the residents as they watched the young students from Dalziel high school work extremely hard in extreme hot temperatures creating a wonderful colourful masterpiece .
The Autumn theme chosen by the residents has completed another amazing section of Logan's Park.
The quality of the art work has been outstanding and the residents, staff and families take time to check out and enjoy the tremendous art work which has become a great talking point for the home.
The dedication, creativity and hard work by the students impressed the residents and we have all enjoyed every minute the students have spent with us at Park Springs.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone who participated in making this project a huge success.
“Special thank you to Kevin Polin (art teacher) for making it all look so easy and doing a fantastic job.”
We hope the mural will provide a lot of enjoyment for the residents for years to come . . . Teacher Mr Polin
