Memorable day for S3 to S4 grads

- Staff reporter

Well done to S1 pupil John McGhie, who has been selected to take part in a week- long training camp at Rangers FC’s training ground, starting on Monday, June 27.

This is a great opportunity for Jon and we wish him well.

Graduation Ceremony: The S3 graduation into S4 was held on Friday, June 17, and was a great event. Many thanks to Mrs Anderson for her meticulous organisation of the event, to Mrs Welsh for putting together a fabulous presentation full of memories of the S3s, to Mr McGilp for his head teacher’s report and to Mrs McDonald and Mr Farr for the presentation of prizes and certificates.

Of course congratulations has to go to the S3 cohort, who have graduated into the senior phase.

Their E-portfolios, which they have put together themselves, will be issued shortly but can be viewed online for those parents who might be interested.

Football results: Mr McInally has reported that in the S1/ S2 football game against an S1/S2 team from St Aidan’s, the Coltness team came out on top winning 2-0 with goals from Josh Kane and Lewis Stevenston.

Well done boys! A great way to finish off the season.

International Conference: Miss Mackie and Mr Kunderan accompanied a group of eight S2 and S3 pupils to the Glow Centre to take part in the International Conference.

The team, Lucy Gardner, Lauren Watson, Zoe Robertson, Luke Scanlan, Hannah Russell, Graeme Sneddon, Ben Rudden, David Cringles and Scott Reid, took on the opinions and attitudes of China, who they were portraying in the debates.

They researched China’s views on the refugee crisis and the war on terrorism, and created a three-minute opening speech to open the debate for “The War on Terror Can Only be Won Through Increased Surveillance”, presented by Lucy, Lauren and Zoe.

The group were involved in both debates, and had a very successful and enjoyable day.

Staff v Pupils: The second annual Andrew Aitken memorial match between the outgoing S6 and Teachers plus Former Pupils. A great crowd of about 500 watched the game and over £500 was raised through this with the money going to the Anthony Nolan Trust.

The match was played in good spirit in a very high temperature somewhere in the mid-20 degrees.

The staff ran out victors 5-3 with the goal of the game being a looping shout from Mr Kunderan into the keepers top right corner.

Thanks to former pupil, Harry Young, who refereed the game.

Andrew’s mum Wendy Aitken presented the trophy to the staff, whilst his dad Kenny turned out on behalf of the staff team.

Mr Rae would like to thank all members of staff in the school for coming out to suppport the match or covering classes for as many members of staff as possible to be out on the pitch supporting their colleagues, our S6 team and this very worthwhile charity.
