Gala day The gala day will take place this Saturday, June 25. Gala programmes are now available to buy in local shops. EU Congregati­onal Church On Sunday, the morning service will be held in the church at 11.30am and the evening service will be at 6.30pm. Singing group meets on Tuesday evenings at 7pm. Calderhead Erskine Church The book club at the church are holding their annual sale of good quality, used hardback and paperback books and DVDs in the Guild Room next to the church on Tuesday, June 28, from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. Tea, coffee and freshly made pancakes will be served at the event. Admission will be free and all donations will go to church funds. Do come along and find some summer reading. Lodge St John 471 Meetings have now finished for the summer and will resume on September 2. The RWM thanks members for their attendance during this term. Bon Accord Club The club are taking new bookings, so get in touch if you’d like to hold an event there. There is bingo every Wednesday and Friday evenings and a cabaret every Saturday night in the lounge. The function hall is available to hire for events. For more informatio­n, contact the club on 01501 821542. Salvation Army Corps On Tuesday, the friendship club meets from 1pm to 3pm. On Thursday evenings, the prayer meeting and Bible study is held at 7pm. All other groups are on now holiday. The Sunday morning meeting will be at 10.45am, led by Lieutenant Luke Reading. 32 Social Club Entertainm­ent for members and friends is as follows: Monday night bingo is at 8.30pm. On Sunday, June 26, Shotts District LOL 32 will have a fundraiser with the Gallant Pioneers Roadshow and Carol Paris. This event has now sold out. Tickets are on sale for the Dykehead Sons of William Flute Band Battle of the Somme centenary night with the Black and Tans on Friday, July 1. Tickets are available from Darren Gardiner or from behind the bar. Ironworks Bowling Club send their congratula­tions to Lilly Bennett and Liz Millar who won the Bowls Scotland District Finals on Saturday of last week. The next stop will be the competitio­n at Northfield on July 29, and the club wish them good luck. The ladies invitation pairs will be played at the club all day today (Wednesday, June 22). Saturday night will see dancing to Harvest with Monday night’s game of promiscuou­s. Community council meets on the first Monday of the month in the Community Centre in Kirk Road at 7.30pm. Fundraisin­g group is a group comprised of members of various groups throughout Shotts who are interested in sharing informatio­n and best practices about finding out about and applying for grants and funding. The meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month at 7.30pm in the Station Hotel. The next meeting will be held on July 14. All are welcome. Anti-fracking group meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm in the Station Hotel. The next meeting will be next Wednesday, July 14. Everyone is welcome. Shape Up Shotts meet on the first Wednesday of the month in the Congregati­onal church hall. If you’d like to help make Shotts a better place to live, do come along. New members are welcome. Wishaw, Murdostoun and Fortissat Community Forum The forum meets monthly on the last Thursday of each month at 7pm. The group welcomes representa­tives from each of the areas, which includes Shotts. If you represent a community group, do come along. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, June 30 in the Houldswort­h Centre, Wishaw (the new health centre building) at the earlier time of 6.30pm. Artskool offers art classes for all ages. Mondays from 6pm to 7.30pm is for ages eight to 11, Tuesdays from 10.30am to 12 noon is for adults, with a class for four to seven-year-olds from 6pm to 7.30pm. On Wednesdays from 6pm to 7.30pm, there’s a class for ages 12 and over. Additional classes can be scheduled based on demand. For more informatio­n or to join a class, call Claudia on 0791394777­8. St Patrick’s Furniture Project (Shotts) the thrift shop at 261 Station Road has new opening hours: Monday to Friday, 10am to 3pm, but closed on Wednesdays until further notice. The warehouse at 100 Calderhead Road is open Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 4pm. Do not leave goods outside the shop or warehouse when the premises are closed. The office phone number is 01501 821187. The project warehouse has achieved Revolve accreditat­ion, an EFQM quality standard used by member organisati­ons of Community Resources Network for Scotland. Disability Forum The forum can be contacted by telephone on 01698 275710 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 11am to 3pm. Advice and informatio­n is available on issues such as DSS benefits, aids and adaptation­s, home assessment­s, housing benefit and council tax. Home visits can be arranged for people who are housebound and unable to access services. There is also an experience­d signer who can assist people who have speech or hearing difficulti­es. Springhill Marble Club The entertainm­ent for members and friends begins with bingo on Sunday afternoon in the lounge at 1.30pm. Bingo is held in the main hall on Monday and Thursday evenings at 9pm. The gala’s civic week continues tonight (Wednesday, June 22) with the kiddies disco, with Loony Toons from 6.30pm to 8.30pm and there will be fun and games, glitter tattoos, dancing, special guests and a goodie bag. This Saturday, June 25, sees the kids disco from 1pm to 4pm then for the adults Highway Jones will be performing from 8pm till late; £2 entry. Calderhead Erskine Church Worship takes place in the church every Sunday morning at 11am. Sunday club is available for younger children and teenagers at 11.20am. Adult learning North Lanarkshir­e Council’s lifelong learning team have a range of free learning programmes for adults, with short employabil­ity courses for CV preparatio­n, preparing for job interviews and job searches. These courses are held in Shotts Community Centre, Kirk Road, on Tuesday mornings at 9.30am to 11.30am. English support classes, adult literacy and numeracy support classes and SQA-certificat­ed introducti­on to computer courses will be held in Newmains, Pather, Shotts and Harthill. Eastfield and Harthill Flute Orchestra The orchestra hold rehears- als on Sunday afternoons from 4pm in the Benhar Hall, (former school kitchen building), Benhar Road, Eastfield. Allanton Parish Church This Sunday’s service with Discovery club and creche will be held in the church at 12.30pm. The church is open each Wednesday afternoon from 1pm to 3pm for a quiet time of prayer. Mother and toddlers group meets in the church hall every Tuesday morning at 9.30am. The Women’s Guild has now stopped for its summer break. Karate class meets in the church hall each Wednesday evening at 6.30pm. Street dance classes are held in the church hall every Thursday evening at 6pm to 7pm and 7pm to 8pm, and on Saturday mornings at 10am. Youth group meets in the Senior Citizen Centre each Friday evening at 7pm to 9pm. Miners’ Social Club entertainm­ent begins on Thursday with a double session of bingo, play your cards right and raffle. Saturday sees a country night with Ellis County, bingo, play your cards right and raffle. Sunday sees dancing to Bill McFarlane, bingo, play your cards right, raffle and tote double. The club is available for anyone wishing to hire the premises and hold private functions.
