Taylor team shine at rally
The Taylor Music department and choir, led by Miss Fiona Cannon, principal teacher of music, prepared and presented the music at the A. C. N National Rally where Catholic High Schools a n d U n i ve r s i t y Chaplaincies from all over Scotland united with persecuted Christians worldwide.
The young people listened to addresses by Bishop John Keenan, Lorraine McMahon from Aid to the Church, and Sarmad Ozan from Mosul in Iraq who gave the keynote speech.
The choir and instrumentalists were outstanding which was a measure of the hard work in preparation for this national event.
As usual our students did us proud! Well done to them all and a big thank you to Miss Cannon for her unstinting efforts on behalf ofthe school.
NLC INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE: A Social Subjects team made their annual trip to the NLC Modern Studies International Conference again this year. Pre-debates took place at Braidhurst High School and the final conference was in the GLO Centre, Motherwell.
The team ably represented Iraq this time and delivered motionson issues such as human rights, surveillance and the refugee crisis.
They were also entertained by both Scottish and Brazilian music played by lmusicians and listened to speeches from MSYPs, Motherwell and Wishaw MP Marion Fellows, former International Conference participants and Jackie Cahill, Quality Improvement Officer for Learning and Leisure Services in North Lanarkshire.
SIXTH YEAR CONFERENCE: Sixthyear students attended the annual conference on Friday June 17, in the Xavier Centre, Carfin.
The election of this year’s house captains took place during the conference, where students participated in many workshops including the rights and responsibilities of being a sixth-year student during the session ahead. Various staff spoke with students about the variety of committee opportunities open to them in their sixth year,
Well done to all pupils who were in the running for a house captain position as a great deal of hard work and enthusiasm had been put into their election speeches in the run up to the event.
The candidates were also interviewed by head teacher Mr Gerry McCormick and sixth-year stage head Ms Jan McCrone.
Congratulation to this year’s elected house captains for each year group house as follows; Owen Sibley, Christopher Wright, Amber Kane, Kara Toal, Lochlan Mur ray, Christopher McCann.
The three vice-captains are Natasha Newall, Natalie O’ Rourke and Amy McNaughton who will be involved with various activities throughout the year.
They will take up their roles officially in August after the school returns from the summer break.
Their respective year groups look forward to working with them through school initiatives and events over the year to come.
Thanks to Ian MacFarlane our home school partnership oifficer who spoke to the students about our buddying programme, Mrs Anna Robertson who spoke about our peer tutoring programme and Mr Martin McMahon, who presented the Caritas Award Initiative.
Thanks to Stage Head Ms. Jan McCrone who oversaw this year’s conference which was co- ordinated by principal teacher of pupil support Mr Charles Phairs. The event was, as always, a huge success.
BLACKPOOL 2016: Staff and students had another fantastic time on the annual whole school excursion to Blackpool last week. Three hundred students enjoyed this year’s trip and the young people should be commended for the manner in which they conducted themselves throughout the day. They were a credit to themselves and the school. Thanks goes to Miss Nicola Daley, depute head teacher who coordinated this visit for everyone to enjoy.
