Prom night’s a sparkling event

Senior leavers dance the night away

- Staff reporter

The Braidhurst High School Senior Prom took place at Dalziel Park last week when 114 pupils and 40 staff enjoyed a tremendous evening in a nice surrounding.

After a lovely meal pupils were entertained with personalised awards being presented by the comedy duo of Dr Gardner and Mr Hussain followed by a photographic trip down memory lane created by Gemma Baird.

Pupils and staff had the opportunity to have a formal photograph taken to remember the event by, courtesy of Mr Chisholm from the Art Department.

After the formalities of the evening everyone then enjoyed the excellent DJ and danced the night away. The hotel staff commented upon the excellent conduct of all pupils who were a real credit to Braidhurst.

TOP READERS: Congratulations to this year’s ‘ Top Readers’ from S1 and S2 as part of the school library’s personal reading program. There was a fantastic effort from many, many young people over the last school year but these particular pupils went above and beyond the rest. A huge well done to all and keep reading!

SCOTTISH YOUTH PARLIAMENT BY- ELECTION: S6 pupil Michelle McKinnie was elected to the Scottish Youth Parliament on June 16.

She will serve as MSYP for the constituency of Motherwell and Wishaw.

All staff and pupils have relished getting behind Michelle and supporting her in her campaign.

This was exemplified by the huge electoral turnout that the school saw on Tuesday June 145.

We are all incredibly proud of her and wish her every success as MSYP.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE: Braidhurst High School pupils once again had the opportunity to take part in NLC’s International Conference; an event that all pupils look forward to.

They debated current affairs, taking on the role of one particular nation, in this case Poland.

Pupils debated terrorism and the plight of refugees, with the majority of other schools in North Lanarkshire participating.

All pupils had a fantastic experience and commented that they really enjoyed having the opportunity to express their views in this forum. Sara McWhirter of S5 said, “I found the opportunity to take part in the conference much more beneficial than I thought it would be. I really enjoyed hearing the opinions of those around me on the motions under debate”.

Barry Williams of S6 said, “As always the conference was a great success. I look forward to the next conference in 2017”. Braidhurst High School pupils were a credit to themselves and staff.
