Keiran cruises to first place at UK champs
14-year-old Wishaw racer bags victory in Cumbria
Wishaw minimoto racer Keiran Grigor stormed to victory at the UK Minimoto Championships last week.
The 14-year-old took the chequered flag at Rowrah in Cumbria, where he was taking part in round three of the UK Championships.
Keiran grabbed two first places on the way to his win in the lightweight class.
The youngster was also in action last weekend at a demonstration at the famous Knockhill circuit before getting ready to head to Edinburgh for the next round of the championships this Sunday.
Despite difficult conditions at the Cumbrian track, Keiran managed to hold on and battle through the sporadic downpours and pick up the victory.
Dad Barry revealed how the sporting success at motor racing runs in the Grigor family.
He said: “It was brilliant for Keiran and he raced really well so we were delighted for him.
“He comes from a racing family, I like to race the minimotos for a bit of fun and his grandad is a motorbiking fanatic at the age of 63.
“The aim with minimoto is to carry it on and end up racing motorbikes and Kieran seems keen to do that.
“Keiran’s sister Carla was also racing but she recently decided she didn’t want to anymore.
“Keiran has got into it a lot more recently and he’s been racing for about four years now.
“Winning last weekend was great and he managed to get two first place finishes and that meant he finished overall in group C.
“Then Ke i ran was at the demonstration at Knockhill and that’s when Scotland host the super bikes and he’s looking forward to being a part of that.”
With Keiran heading to the Raceland Karting Circuit near Edinburgh this weekend he will be looking to add to his success in the junior category.
The UK Minimoto Championships consists of eight rounds with each round crowning a winner with total results rolling over.
A total winner is crowned at the end of the championships, which takes place at the end of the year.
Last season, Cambusnethan Minimoto racer Ross Maguire finished second in three classes and currently sits top in the Adult Open, Featherweight and Junior B class.
This weekend could see more success for the local racers.
