So, is Jeremy Corbyn the right man for job?

Challenges to his leadership are damaging

- Lynn Love

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn recently said the leadership challenge against him has damaged support for the party.

Ed Miliband last week backed Owen Smith ahead of Corbyn for the leadership, claiming he will be the man to reunite the party.

We took to the streets of Wishaw to ask people if they thought Corbyn was the right man for the job.

Wishaw man Francis Gallagher said: “I’ll always be a Labour man no matter who is in charge of the party. “They will always get my support.” Jim Anderson added: “I think Corbyn is the right man for the shop. He is very straight-talking and true to his beliefs.

“He’s the type of man we need in charge of our country. He talks truth and sense and I would definitely back him.”

Nemwains mum Amanda Smith, pictured with her daughters Leigh, 9, and Kerry, 6, think it’s time for a change.

She said: “I’ve only recently started to take an interest in politics but what I’ve heard and saw of Jeremy Corbyn I don’t like. I think a change of leader would be for the best.”

Netherton man Stuart McCulloch said it is against his beliefs to vote.

He added: “I’m a Christian and we are not allowed to take part in the devil’s system. I have never voted and I never will no matter what party is in charge.

“I have no interest in it whatsoever.”
