Man suffered head injury in vicious attack

- Ross Thomson

A 37- year- old man was left with a serious head injury after being violently assaulted by a gang of men in Motherwell.

The horrific incident, which took place around 8.40pm, on Monday, August 8, saw the man rushed to Wishaw General Hospital where he had to have two staples inserted into his head.

The attack, which took place on a footpath near to the Bentley Hotel in High Road, began when the man noticed that he was being followed by three men.

Having realised that he was being tracked by the gang, the man began to run towards a nearby taxi rank.

However, his legs were then clipped by the men who then began their assault.

An ambulance was called and the man was rushed to hospital where he was treated for his head injury.

A Police Scotland spokesman told the Wishaw Press that they do not have a description of the attackers although the victim did state that one of the men was wearing a dark jacket.

However, police are keen to speak to any taxi drivers or members of the public who were in the area at the time of the incident.

The spokesman continued: “The attack took place in quite an isolated area.

“However, the taxi rank nearby looks onto Hamilton Road which is the main road which takes you to Motherwell town centre.

“There are also nearby shops and takeaways.

“We would appeal to any local taxi drivers or members of the public who may have seen a group of men acting suspiciously near that area to come forward and speak to us.”
