If you are looking for something to do on a Wednesday night, why not join us for some fun and friendship.. Our girls enjoy lots of different activities from crafts and competitoo­ns, to drama and displays. There are opportunit­ies to widen your horizons too, by learning new skills, gaining awards and making a difference in your community. Our youngest members are the Explorers and if you are in P1-3 you can join us from 6pm till 7.30pm. Being an Explorer is all about having lots of fun and making new friends. You’ll get to learn about new things and sometimes we’ll take you on trips to visit exciting places. You can get involved in crafts, singing, playing new games and learning about the world around us. We also learn how important it is to share and help other people. If you are in P4-7, you’re old enough to join us as a Junior from 6pm till 7.30pm and P6-7 girls come along at 6pm till 8pm. Our juniors take on new challenges all the time through a range of different activities, working towards gaining badges. You will also be able to demonstrat­e how much you’ve learned through displays and competitio­ns. You’ll be able to visit different places throughout Scotland on day trips and sometimes for a weekend. The Brigaders are the oldest girls in our Company and any girl who is at secondary school can come along on Wednesdays from 6pm till 8pm. Our Brigaders take on more challengin­g work but there’s also lots of adventure involved. Activities can include sports, music, drama, first aid, volunteeri­ng, keep fit and cooking to name a few. You’ll be able to take part in outdoor pursuits and adventure sports and you might even be able to go on a Brigade Holiday or Activity Weekend. You can also work towards the Queen’s Award and various levels of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, which will help you grow in confidence and develop new skills for the future. 1st Shotts Company is waiting, so girls, old members and new, we would love to see you at Calderhead Erskine Church Hall on Wednesday nights EU Congregati­onal Church On Sunday, the morning service is at 11.30am. Sunday School returns this Sunday after the holidays. On Tuesday night, the singing group is at 7pm. Friday, the ladies fellowship is at 10.30am. On Sunday, the morning service will be at 11.30am and on Tuesday nights, the singing group meets at 7pm. Lodge St John 471 meetings have finished until September 9. There is a general committee meeting on September 5 at 7pm. Bon Accord Club The club are taking new bookings, so get in touch if you’d like to hold an event there. There is bingo every Wednesday and Friday evenings and a cabaret every Saturday night in the lounge. The function hall is available to hire for events. For more informatio­n, contact the club on 01501 821542. Salvation Army Corps On Tuesday, the Friendship Club is from 1pm till 3pm. On Thursday morning, the Toddlers is from 9.30am till 11.30am. The Friday Club is from 5.45pm till 6.45pm followed by the J.A.M Club from 6.45pm till 7.45pm. The Sunday morning meeting is at 10.45am, led by Lieutenant Luke Reading. Tgere is no evening meeting. 32 Social Club Entertainm­ent for members and friends is as follows; Monday night bingo is at 8.30pm. Tickets are now on sale for Shotts District LOL 32 Cabaret Night and Dance on Saturday, September 10 with Craig Swan and Liz Sloan. Ironworks Bowling Club The club have their usual dancing and bingo on Saturday night. Monday night has Carpet Bowls and there’s bingo on Thursday night. Community council meets on the first Monday of the month in the Community Centre in Kirk Road at 7.30pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend. Fundraisin­g group This group is comprised of members of various groups throughout Shotts who are interested in sharing informatio­n and best practices on finding out about and applying for grants and funding. The meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month at 7.30pm in the Station Hotel. All are welcome to attend. Anti-fracking group meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm in the Station Hotel. Everyone is welcome to come along. Shape Up Shotts meet on the first Wednesday of the month in the Congregati­onal church hall. If you’d like to help make Shotts a better place to live, do come along. Slimming group classes take place every Wednesday at 9.30am, 5pm and 7pm in the EU Congregati­onal church hall at Stane. Anyone thinking of going along would be made welcome. New members are welcome to come along. Wishaw, Murdostoun and Fortissat Community Forum The forum meets monthly on the last Thursday of each month at 7pm. The group welcomes representa­tives from each of the areas, which includes Shotts. If you represent a community group, do come along. The next meeting is on Thursday, August 25, in Mornay Way hall in Shotts. Like the group on Facebook at ‘Wishaw, Murdostoun and Fortissat Community Forum’ to be kept updated. Artskool An exciting new project has started for children and adults alike. Artskool offers art classes for all ages. Mondays from 6pm to 7.30pm is for ages eight to 11, Tuesdays from 10.30am to 12 noon is for adults, with a class for four to seven-year-olds from 6pm to 7.30pm. On Wednesdays from 6pm to 7.30pm, there’s a class for ages 12 and over. Additional classes can be scheduled based on demand. For more informatio­n or to join a class, call Claudia on 0791394777­8. St Patrick’s Furniture Project (Shotts) The project currently has a wide selection of household furniture and white goods for sale. The project has a good range of suites, tables and chairs as well as bedroom furniture, white goods and many other items to choose from. Why not give the project a visit. Everyone is welcome from people shopping on a tight budget to private landlords, browsers also welcome. The project’s thrift shop at 261 Station Road is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 10am to 3pm, and the warehouse at 100 Calderhead Road is open Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 4pm. Disability Forum The forum can be contacted by telephone on 01698 275710 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 11am to 3pm. Advice and informatio­n is available on issues such as DSS benefits, aids and adaptation­s, home assessment­s, housing benefit and council tax. Home visits can be arranged for people who are housebound and unable to access services. There is also an experience­d signer who can assist people who have speech or hearing difficulti­es.

Allanton

Allanton Parish Church service, Discovery club and creche will take place at the church on Sunday at 12.30pm. Karate class is held in the church hall each Wednesday evening at 6.30pm. Youth group meets in the Senior Citizen Centre every Friday evening, from 7pm to 9pm. Miners’ Social Club Entertainm­ent for members and friends begins with a double session of bingo, play your cards right and raffle on Thursdays. Saturday will see a country night with Clay County, bingo, raffle and play your cards right, with dancing to Bill McFarlane, bingo, play your cards right, raffle and tote double on Sunday. Friday, August 19, will see a drag act and disco, tickets cost £4, and are available from G. McLaughlin. Club is available to book for your functions.

Harthill

Eastfield and Harthill Flute Orchestra The orchestra hold rehearsals on Sunday afternoons from 4pm in the Benhar Hall, (former school kitchen building), Benhar Road, Eastfield.
