Camera Club Members On Saturday 16 th July Carluke Camera Club travelled to Warwick University, as one of the clubs representi­ng Scotland, to participat­e in the Photograph­ic Alliance of Great Britain Inter-club PDI Championsh­ip. Having qualified for the final Carluke was eventually placed seventh equal in the competitio­n and Top Scottish Club. Congratula­tions must go to club member Eddie Cocozza who was awarded Paul Keene’s Judge’s Choice for his image titled Like Wot You See, Sir? The club opens it’s new session with an enrolment and cheese & wine evening on Friday, August 26, at 7.30pm in St Andrews Church Hall, Mount Stewart Street, Carluke. All old and new prospectiv­e members are warmly welcome. If you are interested in photograph­y why not come along and see if the club is for you? The club are one of the leading photograph­ic clubs in Scotland and their syllabus has a mixture of speakers, in-house and high profile guests, competitio­ns and social events. In addition to the normal Friday club nights the club runs Monday workshops for members.We also provide interest groups for Audio Visual, Nature and Portraitur­e. In fact something for everyone.Members are reminded to bring along their digital images on enrolment night for showing during the Member’s Digital Night on Friday, September 2. Members should also note the final hand-in date for the club annual Print Competitio­n to be judged by Tony Potter is Friday, September 9. Crossroad cafe The Crossroad cafe held at Kirkton church each Monday morning is a popular meeting place for residents to enjoy a variety of lunches, snacks, tea, coffee and cake. The venue is open for coffee from 10.30am with lunches starting at 11.30am and it’s a great place to meet up with friends. Jam and Ham Festival this year’s Jam and Ham Festival will be hosted in the town from Thursday, September 29 to Saturday, October 1. Applicatio­ns forms for the art exhibition and jam, baking and craft competitio­ns are being displayed throughout the town and its churches. This annual event has become a highlight in the town for the past few years. The Jam and Ham Festival has now become a popular annual event which includes all the family and 2016 looks like being another event not to be missed. The festival competitio­ns will take place in St Athanasius Church on Saturday, October 1. Entry fee is 50p for adults (free for children) with a maximum of three exhibits all to be in place by 10.45pm. Judging by 11am prompt. No exhibit to be removed before 3.30pm and removed by 4pm. Prizes will be awarded at 3pm. Day Centre The members of Carluke Day Centre are now back to their weekly activities after their two week break and have a full list of outings and events planned for the next few months. The whist and dominoes event held each Thursday afternoon is a popular event and the dancing session held on Friday afternoons is always a special musical event. The centre have planned outings to Montrose on August 23 and to Perth with high tea on September 27. Anyone wishing to attend any of these trips should give their names by contacting Mary at the centre on 01555 772214 asap. The members are also looking forward to a musical afternoon with the Jolly Beggars on Thursday, September 29, followed with a finger buffet in the Lifestyle Centre. A weekend holiday to Strathpeff­er has also been planned for October 14, which will cost £139 and anyone wishing to book a place on this trip should contact Mary on the above number. Please note the concert being hosted in Rutherglen Concert Hall in October, followed by high tea is now fully booked. Strawberry Tea This Saturday, August 20, a Strawberry Tea will be held in the United Reform Church Hall in aid of the Clydesdale Voluntary Action group. The venue opens at 10.30am until 2.30pm with the procceds being given to Breast Cancer. A menu will be available with various sandwiches, cakes and sweets and a warm welcome to all to come along and support the group. Thursday service The weekly church service is held in St John’s Church every Thursday morning at 10.30am. Last week the service was led by Sandra Peat who gave a most inspiratio­n lesson to all with a entertaini­ng story of treasured memories off loved ones who have passed on the singing of the popular hymns was again enjoyed making the morning a happy place to be. The Kettles On continued this happy morning with the celebratio­n of church elder Alex Forrest 80 th Birthday where a cake and candles and the singing of Happy Birthday brought this special morning to a close. Come along some Thursday morning 10.30am and join in on this special church service. Irvine outing The residents and friends of Kirkton and Fleming Court had a lovely day on Friday of last week. Although a wet and dull morning as they left the complex the company found it dry and pleasant to go along to the many shops and to enjoy snacks coffee and lunches . The outing was found to be most enjoyable and returned home to find the rain once again. St Athanasius Best wishes to the children, teachers, and staff who are starting school this week May you receive every blessing and achieve every success this coming school year. A retiring offering was asked at last weekend Mass to support the African Food Crisis Appeal. The Scottish Government will match pound for pound up to £70,000 specifical­ly for Malawi. The Scottish Catholic Internatio­nal Aid Fund has made this new appeal to all.The date for the general meeting of the Parish has been changed to Thursday, September 29. The meeting is open to all parishione­rs and a full support would be appreciate­d. Please put this date in your diary. Shine The theatre group performed Something About This Night. Director Gordon Beck conducted this performanc­e from the front of the stage giving a lead up to the musicals and praising the work the approx 100 performers on stage have achieved over the last few weeks and it all proved worthwhile as the audiences gave each finale the standing ovation the cast deserved. The finale musical was a taste of what s to come in three weeks time when the Shine Youth Music Theatre will present Into The Woods. Tickets for this exciting musical are now out for sale, which runs from September 13 to 17. Call 07519 154907 to avoid disappoint­ment. Trekkers The Carluke Trekkers have planned another outing for Saturday, August 27, leaving St John’s Church at 9am for a visit to Kelly Cut and Leapmoor Forest. This is a flat walk of approximat­ely 10 miles. Anyone wishing to go should contact Rae by emailing raewarnock@aol.com. Overtown Parish Church the morning service will take place in the church on Sunday at 11am. There will be no creche for younger children and all visitors to the church will be made welcome. Barbecue the proposed barbecue has been cancelled until further notice. Friendship Group The Friendship Group of Overtown Church are proud to present for your entertainm­ent entitled Studio 32. This is a concert full of music, song and laughter, on Monday, September 12, in Overtown Church, starting at 7.15pm. Tickets cost £8 which includes tea, coffee and home baking. The proceeds from the evening will be used to purchase pew cushions for the church (hopefully the final cushions to complete the renewal) Come along and support this worthy cause. Tickets can be obtained from any member of the Friendship Group or from Nancy Pollock on 01698 351040. Line dancing The line dancing class continues this afternoon, Wednesday, with beginners/refresher class from 12.30pm followed by the full class from 1.15pm until 2.45pm. Everyone welcome. Village Associatio­n Overtown Brighter Village Associatio­n are holding a grand opening of the new children’s play area in Overtown Park on Saturday, September 27. The ceremony of cutting the ribbon will be performed by last year’s Snow Queen, Briony Toner and her Champion Mark Kerr at 12.30pm with the festivitie­s starting at noon through to 4 pm. The event will feature a bouncy castle, teddy bear’s picnic, face painting and lots of other activities. Everyone welcome.

Overtown Newarthill/Carfin

Newarthill and Carfin Parish Church the coffee morning held in Newarthill church on Thursday at 10am has resumed following its summer break. Come along and enjoy the fellowship and delicious home baking. Children welcome and transport can be arranged. The regular coffee mornings held at Carfin church each Tuesday morning between 10am and 12 noon continue. The Kirk Session have recently reviewed the personal data informatio­n held about members and adherents for the purpose of roll administra­tion and associated church related matters, including the provision of pastoral care. Anyone wishing to obtain a form regarding this matter should contact Ann Pickering, the Session Clerk in person or email sessioncle­rk@nc-church.org, who will be able to answer any questions.
