came after Dan Kindlan skipped through a couple of challenges before slipping a pass to Ryan Smillie who managed to round the keeper but his effort from a tight angle was blocked.

As the match headed towards halftime though the home side edged ahead when a chipped cross was headed home by the unmarked Paul McGeogh to give his side the lead at the break.

While the first half might have been short on goalmouth incidents, the second half started with three goals in the first 15 minutes.

Newmains equalised when Keiran O’Hear slotted the ball home after his initial shot was saved by Wishaw goalkeeper Lawrie.

Less than 10 minutes later, the home side regained the lead.

Wishaw won a free-kick which the visitors must have felt they had dealt with after they had headed clear from a corner.

However, from the resultant corner Dan Kindlan’s in- swinging effort deceived Newmains goalie Gareth Hallford who only managed to get the tips of his fingers to it before the ball dropped into the net.

The home side were keen to force home the advantage and on the hour mark extended their lead.

McGeogh rose higher than everyone else to divert a header into the empty net following a Wishaw free-kick.

The visitors were not out of it though and were still capable of causing the home side problems.

Two minutes later they had a great chance when Stewart tricked his way past Goodall before sending in a cross which substitute Cassidy nudged the wrong side of the post.

Halfway through the second half, the game was ended as a contest when the home side were awarded a penalty.

The decision seemed harsh but the referee appeared to have no doubt and pointed to the spot.

Ryan Smillie took the kick and sent the keeper the wrong way to give Wishaw a 4-1 lead and they managed to see the game out.
