Wishaw Juniors scored 10 goals in two games in League Cup action and assistant boss Glen Weir says there is more to come.

A 6-1 win over Carluke Rovers was followed up by a 4-1 victory over local rivals Newmains United on Saturday.

Weir believes his side will have to be at the top of their game if they are to progress to the latter stages of the competition with games against high flying Gartcairn tonight ( Wednesday) and Shotts on

Newmains snooker ace Chris Totten was on sparkling form as he helped Scotland to a stunning last gasp victory in the Home Internationals.

The 17-year-old sensation, who won the National Championship in May, was one of four talented players who helped Scotland to victory in the tournament for the first time in 13 years.

In a nail biting contest, Scotland had to better the Republic of Ireland’s result in their final match to be guaranteed the trophy.

And Chris and the young Scots certainly delivered with a 9-3 win against Wales A while the Republic could only manage an 8-4 victory against England.

Chris’ proud mum Ann was delighted with her son’s success and also the superb team spirit amongst the Scottish side.

She said: “The boys had to play three frames each during the matches so they all had to play well.

“In the final match everyone knew they Saturday.

Weir said: “We’ve had a very good start to the season and there’s certainly goals in the team.

“I thought Newmains played well in spells on Saturday but we were always in control.

“Gartcairn had a great win against Shotts at the weekend so they will be flying.

“They’ve added a lot of experience so it will be a really tough game.

“Shotts will be keen to bounce back after their heavy defeat against Gartcairn.

“Their manager is trying to build a side and he will expect a reaction from his players.”

Meanwhile, Newmains boss Kevin Muirhead think tonight’s (Wednesday) match with Carluke Rovers will give him an idea as to how far his team have come during their pre-season.

Un i t e d hav e tested themselves against tough opposition throughout the summer but with Rovers in the same division for the upcoming league campaign, Muirhead is hoping his team can put on a fine performance.

Muirhead said: “I took a lot of positives from the Wishaw game.

“A couple of individual mistakes cost us but I thought we were brave on the boy and we were trying to play football the right way.

“The Carluke game will definitely gauge where we are in terms of the league season.

“We need to get on the ball and continue to create chances.

“The players seem to be enjoying themselves and giving the opposition problems everytime we go forward.”
