had to go out and deliver.

“Chris has known the rest of the team for a long time and they were egging each other on.

“There was a great team spirit amongst the Scotland team and that really helped them.

“They are all friends away from the snooker table and I think that makes a real difference.”

Scotland kicked off their campaign with a resounding 9-3 win against Wales B before a superb 8-4 victory over England.

After a 9-3 defeat to Northern Ireland, Chris and his team-mates, Ross Vallance, Robert Carlisle and Michael Collumb, got back to winning ways with an 8-4 success against the Irish Republic.

Scotland then hammered Guernsey 11- 1 to set up the snooker showdown against the Welsh.

The standard of Chris’ own performance was shown as he won 12 out of a possible 18 frames scoring 1070 points and finishing fourth in the overall individual standings.

Scotland had three players inside the top 10 showing the high standard the team played to throughout the tournament.

Chris, who was the youngest winner of the National Championship since seven times world champion Stephen Hendry, is now turning his attention to the under-21 and under- 18 World Championships in the Belgian town of Mol which gets underway this week.

The under-18 championship runs until August 20 with Chris in with a great chance of winning the title.

The under-21 event begins straight after and will run until August 25.

Ann is quietly confident that Chris can bring home one of the trophies to add to an already overflowing trophy cabinet in his mum’s house.

She added: “Chris has already left for Belgium and will be there for the next 11 or 12 days.

“Obviously there are a lot of really good players from across the world there for this event and everyone wants to win.

“Countries like China have got a lot of great players but I think Chris has got a good chance of doing well.

“It would be unbelievable if he could come home with the trophy and he is definitely capable of doing it if he plays to his best.”
