Delighted by Team GB at the Olympics

- Lynn Love

The Rio 2016 Olympics is already Team GB’s most successful ever away Games.

Between them the Team GB have won a record number of medals, beating the tally they bagged in Beijing eight years ago.

Team boss Mark England said: “What this team has delivered at Rio 2016 is an incredible achievement and the country should be extremely proud of the athletes and their support staff.

“The best -ever away Games is a piece of history and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to reach that target so on early on at Rio 2016.”

We took to the streets of Wishaw to ask our readers their favourite moment of the Rio Olympics so far.

Mary Doran, of Netherton, said the games have brightened up her nights. She said: “I’ve liked watching it all. It’s been great. My favourite was Andy Murray winning gold. I’m a massive fan so it was good to see him win again.

Cleland woman Carina Gallagher said: “The gymnastics is really exciting to watch. I was watching Louis Smith and he was fabulous. There is so much talent and it’s been great to see team GB do so well again.”

Grace Hardie, of Netherton, said: “My favourite so far has been the diving. What they do is really impressive. It’s an exciting watch.”

Mary Doyle, pictured with granddaughter Roisin, 2, said: “Team GB have done amazing this year. I’ve really enjoyed the running. The speed and stamina of the runners is amazing.”
