Rotary Club The club’s newest Rotarian, Peter McCrossan, was the speaker on Thursday of last week at the meeting of the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw. Peter’s address was his ‘job talk’ and he spoke of his professional background in chiropody and podiatry and his current role as director of Allied Health Services in NHS Lanarkshire. Having qualified and gained state registration after three years training, Peter’s career began in Wishaw Health Centre carrying out general chiropody. Two years later Peter moved to Glasgow Royal Infirmary to take up a promoted post and, during his time there, he gained more experience in various departments, including orthopaedics, treatment of diabetes and burns unit. After five years, Lanarkshire beckoned once again, and Peter has worked there ever since, progressing to his present position. During his address, Peter highlighted the changes to both clinical practice and treatment environment and showed a number of slides of the clinical conditions regularly met by podiatrists, stressing the problems diabetics encounter with their feet due to restricted blood circulation to their extremities. He also gave members a snapshot of approximately 1400 AHPs in Lanarkshire. Peter, who is also a podiatrist to Motherwell Football Club told the members that he takes no responsibility for the performances on the field of play. Rotarian Bill McCallum gave an update of last week’s pigeon derby race from Sedgefield, of approximately 120 miles. The winning birds belonged to Rotarians Andrew Steven, Allan Scott and Jim Peat and the winner of the weekly bonus ball was Hugh Graham. At the recent Wishaw Disabled Games members of the rotary club again organised and assisted with the carpet bowling. Six senior girls from Dalziel High School helped the rotarians umpire the matches and although there was a reduction in the number of participants, the overall winners were the Summerhill Disabled Club from Aberdeen.
