Shotts and District Rotary Club have now resumed after their summer break. Meetings are every Wednesday at 7pm in the Station Hotel. The club’s new president is local man John Eadie from Shotts. This week’s speakers will be Dorothy Russell, chaplain of Shotts Prison and Claudius England, a Jamaican singer/ songwriter. For further informatio­n, contact the club secretary, David McCloy on 0796120487­1 or email davidmcclo­ysnr@hotmail.com. 1st Shotts Company Girls’ Brigade Girls looking for something to do on a Wednesday night are welcome to join in for some fun and friendship. The Girls’ Brigade is all about making new friends, discoverin­g new things and, above all, having fun. The girls enjoy a variety of different activities from crafts and competitio­ns, to drama and displays. There are also opportunit­ies for them to widen their horizons by learning new skills, gaining awards and making a difference in their local community. The youngest members are the Explorers for girls in P1-3, who meet each week from 6pm to 7.30pm. Girls in P4-7 can join the Junior section from 6pm to 7.30pm and P6-7 girls meet at 6pm to 8pm. The Juniors take on new challenges all the time through a range of different activities, working towards gaining badges. They will also be able to demonstrat­e how much they have learned through displays and competitio­ns and visit different places throughout Scotland on day trips and sometimes for a weekend. The Brigaders are the oldest girls in the company and any girls who are at secondary school can come along on Wednesdays from 6pm to 8pm. The Brigaders take on more challengin­g work but there’s also lots of adventure involved. They will be able to take part in outdoor pursuits and adventure sports and might even be able to go on a Brigade holiday or activity weekend. Girls can also work towards the Queen’s Award and various levels of the Duke of Edinburgh awards scheme, which will help them to grow in confidence and develop new skills for the future. Members old and new are welcome to come along and meets at Calderhead Erskine church hall on Wednesday nights. EU Congregati­onal Church Tonight (Wednesday) there is an Elders meeting at 7pm. Ladies Fellowship meets this Friday at 10.30am. On Sunday, the morning service will take place at 11.30am and on Tuesday nights, the singing group meets at 7pm. Lodge St John 471 meetings have now finished until September 9. There will be a general committee meeting on September 5, at 7pm. Bon Accord Club are taking new bookings, so please get in touch if you’d like to hold an event there. There is bingo every Wednesday and Friday evenings and a cabaret every Saturday night in the lounge. The function hall is available to hire for events. For more informatio­n, contact the club on 01501 821542. Salvation Army Corps On Tuesday, the friendship club meets from 1pm to 3pm. The youth club meets on Wednesdays from 6pm to 7pm. Please note that there is no band practice tonight after the youth club. On Thursday morning, the toddlers meet from 9.30am to 11.30am. The Friday club is from 5.45pm to 6.45pm followed by the JAM club from 6.45pm to 7.45pm. The Sunday morning meeting is at 10.45am and will be led by Lieutenant Luke Reading. There is no evening meeting this week.
